Disentangling trade-offs and synergies around ecosystem services

In collaboration with OPENness, OPERAs member Sandra Lavorel and colleagues working on the French Alps exemplar have published a new paper in Ecology and Society on disentagling the synergies and tradeoffs of ecosystem services using the novel Influece Network Framework.

The novel “Influence Network Framework” describes influence relationships between ecosystem services, biodiversity and their ecological and social drivers, considering explicitly the potential supply, demand and use facets of ecosystem services. A multi-sectoral consultative process in the French Alps demonstrates the operational value of the framework for highlighting discrepancies between perceived influence relationships and scientific knowledge, and for supporting environmental management.
